Slender-billed Cockatoos will typically develop a decent vocabulary of several favorite words and phrases. They can learn to speak, and are surprisingly good talkers for Cockatoos. For this reason, we recommend a large variety of toys and plenty of supervision during play time. Anything and everything is a toy to them – especially if you don’t want them to have it. They are extremely playful and acrobatic. If you are unable to devote at least 4 hours of quality time to your parrot each day, then a Cockatoo is not for you. Although the Slender-billed Cockatoo is much more independent than other Cockatoos, they still need a lot of attention.

Arguably, these parrots are among the most affectionate animals on the planet! This is wonderful at first, but they quickly become like needy two year olds, craving constant attention and companionship. Trainability: Domestic hand-fed babies make excellent pet birds for dedicated caregivers. The darker the iris, the more likely it is to be male. After they have reached maturity (typically around 5 years of age) the females will retain a brown iris, while the males will turn almost black. Sexing: The sexes differ only in eye color, though all juvenile birds will appear to be female.
#Bare eyed cockatoo and slender billed cockatoo skin#
They have the bare, blue patch of skin around their eyes that is typical of Cockatoos.

They are entirely white or pinkish, except for patches of orange or salmon over their eyes (which looks like a mask) and throat (which looks like a bib). They are funny-looking birds with crests that are too small and beaks that are too big! Even their coloring is a little funny. Slender-billed Cockatoos are roughly the same size as the Ducorps Cockatoo, and somewhat similar in appearance.
